Please ... stop the Bulls**t!!
A little while ago, got done listening to two of the most outrageous speeches given at the Republican National Convention. There was Rudy mocking, and ridiculing Community Organizing. Decided to look it up, and see exactly what that is.
"Community organizing is a process by which people are brought together to act in common self-interest. While organizing describes any activity involving people interacting with one another in a formal manner, much community organizing is in the pursuit of a common agenda. Many groups seek populist goals and the ideal of participatory democracy. Community organizers create social movements by building a base of concerned people, mobilizing these community members to act, and developing leadership from and relationships among the people involved."
There's certainly nothing funny about that! In fact, it sounds like a good thing ... trying to get people involved in their community and the issues around them - something everyone should do anyway. I guess that's just beneath some folks.
Then there's a list of groups that are examples of Community Organizing which is interesting:
Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (isn't "reform" one of the buzzwords?)
Christian Coalition (hmmm, isn't this a Republican favorite?)
East Brooklyn Congregations (Rudy's backyard)
And who is listed as a "Notable Community Organizer"? Martin Luther King, Jr.!
"Country First"? Well, "Half A Country First" anyway.
"We're proud of Bristol's decision to have her baby" OK wait ... what other option was there? It's not like she had a "choice" - that's not policy!
Lieberman, Thompson (and Palin) make misleading claims ... yet again.
Let's see ... Obama votes "present" instead of "yes" or "no". In Illinois, these are the three choices ... and a "present" vote is essentially the same as a "no" vote.
Let's take a look at the Senate and ... OH ... what's this? The Senator with the most missed votes - 409 votes or 68.3%? Why ... it's none other than John McCain.
Reform and spending in Alaska. McCain had criticized earmarks from Palin. Three times in recent years, the Arizona senator's lists of "objectionable" pork spending have included earmarks requested by his new running mate.
Who is the flip-flopper? See for yourself!
My favorite news show, The Daily Show had a nice montage of McCain supporters and advisers flip-flopping on the gender issue!
"If your campaign is weak on the issues, go after a weakness in your opponent unrelated to the issues. If your opponent has no weakness, make one up. Then repeat it often enough to make people believe it is the main issue in the campaign." Well said ... and unfortunately, it also works - and I guess that's why it's used.
I suspect the Bulls**t-o-meter will be working overtime tomorrow night!
OH ... I also found the timing of Shrub's speech to the RNC last night interesting ... before the major networks switched from their "prime time" schedule to cover the Convention. It almost seems like the Republicans are so embarrassed by Shrub, and want to distance themselves from him. "Ahhh ... no, you don't have to come to the Convention in person. Let's do it via Satellite before there is Nationwide audience. We don't want too many people to see it and associate us."
